I've rearranged this so that the most current pics are at the bottom of the page, so it shows the whole sordid process.![]() Spring 2000, cut off neck, reattach at straighter angle. ![]() Spring 2000, neck now filled in with epoxy, waiting to be shaped, legs moved (by candlelight). ![]() My "vision", based on the below scan (I moved the left leg back at the shoulder and added a forward facing ear and full tail.)
![]() June 2000-Jan 2001 (we moved and I ran out of epoxy and didn't order more for quite a while!) Right rear leg was taken off and reattached with a longer upper leg.
![]() All views as of Jan. 27, 2001 (I finally ordered epoxy). I trimmed down the neck, added the left ear (the 3 pics in the middle of this row were before I carved his ear out), added some to the inside of the right foreleg, added to the left cheek to match the right cheek, added a tail armiture, started carving some shoulder muscles on the left side, etc.
![]() February 2, 2001, ear trimmed and thinned, chest deepened, underside of neck worked on, right rear leg had muscle added to it, new shoulder on right foreleg, lower right foreleg pulled a little more to the rear, lower right rear hoof reshaped and aligned with leg, all four legs touch the ground. Next? More definition in the legs/thigh/shoulder on the right side, plus the right thigh is a little bit bigger (from the inside of the leg to the outside, not front to back) than the left, working on the upper neck and possibly adding the mane and tail.
![]() Feb 15, 2001, I've trimmed all the legs, shaped the ears so they are really thin toward the top, filled in some grooves on the left and right forelegs, shaped the tendons in the lower legs. I'm still trying to get the right foreleg's hoof right, I added epoxy so I could sand it down to where I want it. I still need to fill a groove on the upper right foreleg and some on the inside of the back legs.
![]() March 6, 2001. Finally a tail! More refining to hooves and legs, more bulk added to right rear leg (front and back of it). The mane will go on soon. Right now it's genderless. Everything looks much rougher than it is in real life, I promise!
![]() March 14, 2001. Finally put on mane, forelock and muscling on right upper neck.
![]() April 10, changed position of right foreleg, making it come down at a straighter angle and putting a bend at the knee. Also made the tail less full, trimmed legs some more.
![]() Above is the remake as of April 22, 2001. Right now I'm just doing subtle changes and details.
![]() 5/2/01, I cut her in half since the last time! I increased her back by about an 1/8 of an inch. It's very subtle, but it does make a difference.
![]() 5/7/01, here she is with a new tail and "girly parts" awaiting her coat of primer and probably lots more sanding!
![]() May 14, 2001. Primed and ready (or so I hoped)! I have not done anything to this horse since the last pictures were taken. At that point I got really overwhelmed by all the detail work yet to be done. I will finish her eventually, just not in the near future. March 2006!
I have finally gotten this little gal out of the curio and started on her again. Lots of refining to do. I did a head transplant with a Native Dancer head. ![]() October 2006 ![]() Done! Painted in a grulla, and patterned after a real Splash Paint mare named Lucy, Boomtown Babe is finally done! Or not, I may end up changing her base color. | ||
